york city, all the way through hartford in connecticut, to boston, massachusetts, up to portland, maine. this entire area is going to get the driving, blinding snow, the kind of snow that shuts down cities. this is kind of a big hit for this area. it really comes together with two storms. one storm that's already delivered a hit of snow. north of the chicagoland area, about ten inches of snow. you didn't have to get too far to get that snow there. and in central detroit. not detroit, but central michigan. they picked up about ten inches of snow. that's got the cold air. as that system drives up to the north, they really do get together and phase right about 2:00, 3:00 in the morning, that system will pull itself together to become one, big snowmaker off the coast of new york and connecticut and massachusetts and boston, to make that big, big storm happen. who gets what? if you're south of the center of this storm you get rain. that's the d.c. area. right along the coastal areas, where you see this flashing red, we have a hurricane-force wind warning out there. the coastal flooding in ar

is in vatican city with that for us. when we were checking in with you earlier, the pope was just arriving. so what did he say and how did he look? >> reporter: he looked reasonably good. he delivered about a 20 minute message and began by talking about the fact that he was going to be leaving the church. he thanked the audience, the people that had gathered for this regular papal audience. in fact the pilgrims that had gathered for their support and their love as he put it. he was certain the church would continue and he would like the pilgrims to pray for him and his successor. and then he went into the lenten message, the temptation of christ, 40 days in the wilderness and that the basis of the christian celebration of lent. he received tumultuous applause every time he mentioned it and also sustained applause at the end of his remarks this morning. so i would say he appeared buoyed up by the support he was getting. >> we're learning who are about his health. he recently underwent surgery. what are the details of that and do we know if that influenced his decision to step down? >> reporter:
